Arnprior Special Olympics - Pre-Season Sports Training Camp
A Great Time !  About 15 Athletes participated as either overnight or day campers in our first Pre-Season Sports Camp.  Volunteers were on hand to help run the camp.
A fun pre-season sports camp for our athletes which incorporated physical training and team building utilizing outdoor activities such as paddling, swimming and various games to challenge and expand the athletes experience. We had a wide variety of games to play indoors in the event of inclement weather. The camp environment with evening bonfires added to the fun.
The event was held at Camp Legewade which is operated by the Boy Scouts.  Facilities included a dining hall, cabins, outdoor biffies, and a site to pitch tents.
Waterfront included canoes, kayaks, life jackets and a very safe swimming area with lifeguards.
Thank you to everyone for making this 1st annual Camp such as success.  -- Pictures and videos to follow...

Floor Hockey Tournament -Sudbury June 2011

Our very own, Arnprior Special Olympics Athletes participated in a Provincial Floor Hockey Tournament which was held in Sudbury, Ontario from June 9 to June 12, 2011.  The "Arnprior Axemen" had a very exciting road trip including 16 athletes and 3 coaches while sharing a bus with some athletes from Renfrew.  While in Sudbury the athletes and coaches stayed at the Cambrian College Residences.  Opening and closing ceremonies were held and about 300 were in attendance and able to watch a Stanley Cup game on a big screen at the Sudbury arena.
How did they do?  The "Arnprior Axemen" were participating in the invitational side of the tournament, and were determined to be too strong for that division, therefore participated in the Mighty Duck division and won respectably the bronze medal.
Two of our Arnprior athletes (Terance Crabtree and Darryl Clark), were on loan to the Brockville Islanders and they won a gold medal.  The Brockville Islanders have been invited to participate in the Winter National Special Olympics Games next February in Saint Albert, Alberta.  We wish Terrance and Darryl all the best on their upcoming competition!
