What's happening in Arnprior Special Olympics in 2018?

Here is some info from our friend Ryan Colpitts for those who have completed the ALPS (Athlete Leadership Program) and future Athletes taking the seminar!

Hello Athletes and Mentors,

I hope you are all doing well. I just wanted to send out a quick email to everyone. We have just created and launched our official Athlete Leadership Program Facebook page and Website. The sole purpose of this page is to allow all graduates of the ALPs workshops (Athletes and Mentors) to join thepage, post things to it that are relevant to Leadership such as work that you are doing, as well as follow what your fellow athletes and mentors are doing.

If you could all take a quick sec to go on Facebook (if you have it), and like/follow the page, that would be appreciated. To find the page, type in the search @SOOAthleteLeadership. It should be the 1st thing that pops up. To find the ALPS website, please go to http://www1.specialolympicsontario.com/alps/. You will be able to see more about the ALPs program as a whole.

If anyone has any questions, please do not hesitate to ask. I look forward to hearing about more success stories.

PS…PLEASE NOTE, the ALPs Website and Facebook page are constantly developing and some items may not be posted right away.

Basketball Update

I want to thank Erin from Brockville who is one of our coaches preparing for Nationals. Erin  was able to host our Ontario team going to Nationals for basketball.

Erin was able to get 9 players from Brockville for our team to play against. Although we did not have enough for a tournament we did have enough to have a very good practice. Everyone participated in a good warm up followed with a few skills traiming before playing a scrimmage.

This was very important to have a competition while still preparing for our National games coming up very fast.

With myself, Matt and Erin coaching today we are getting excited as our players are really working hard and are doing very well with the training we have been giving them.

Thank you all for your help and we look forward to trying one more training session next month before we go to Nova Scotia.

Special Olympics Ontario is introducing a Pilot Program for Endorsements for the 3 upcoming Provincial Games.(2019 Winter Provincial Games, Floor Hockey Provincials, 5 Pin Bowling Championships) We have hired Rebecca Norton to assist us in centralizing this process. The endorsement process will be exactly the same as in past years, only this time it will be managed by one staff person as opposed to each district’s endorsements being managed by the District Developer.
